Puppy Beds

A new puppy’s first bed has a hard job: comfort a baby missing its littermates, survive teething jaws and a few accidents, and wash clean again the next morning.

Settling a new arrival

Those first nights are unsettling for a pup that has only ever slept in a warm pile of siblings. A soft, walled bed with raised sides gives something to snuggle into, and many owners find a low-sided nest or a covered bed helps a whimpering puppy feel held rather than adrift in a big empty room. Pop the bed somewhere your puppy can sense you nearby, at least to begin with.

Resist buying small and replacing it monthly — but don’t go so vast that a tiny pup feels lost either. A sensible middle path is a modestly priced washable bed for the chewy, leaky early months, then a properly sized supportive bed once your puppy reaches close to adult size and has grown out of demolishing things.

Chew-proofing and easy cleaning

Teething puppies test everything with their mouths, so look for tough, tightly woven fabric and avoid beds with dangling tags, loose piping or chunks of foam that could be torn off and swallowed. No bed is truly indestructible, so supervise early on and offer plenty of appropriate chew toys to redirect the urge away from the bedding.

Accidents are inevitable before toilet training clicks, which makes washability the single most important feature of a first bed. Choose one that goes in a domestic machine whole, or has a zip-off cover and a wipeable waterproof liner, so a 3am puddle is a five-minute job rather than a write-off.

Everything here is chosen to be genuinely useful in everyday life with your pet — quality-checked, fairly priced and shipped tracked across the UK. For any health concern, your vet is always the best first port of call.

Common questions

Should I buy a bed for my puppy’s adult size or current size?

Buy an inexpensive, well-fitting washable bed for the teething and accident phase, then invest in a correctly sized supportive bed once your puppy is near adult size. A massive bed can leave a small pup feeling insecure.

How do I stop my puppy chewing the bed?

Choose chew-resistant fabric with no loose tags or exposed foam, supervise at first, and always have appealing chew toys to redirect the urge. Most dogs grow out of bed-chewing once teething ends, usually by around six to eight months.

Where should the bed go for the first few nights?

Somewhere quiet but close to you, so your puppy can hear and smell you and feel less alone. Many owners start the bed in the bedroom or just outside it, then gradually move it to its permanent spot.
