Dog Training Clickers
A clicker is the simplest, cheapest training upgrade there is. That crisp click marks the precise instant your dog does the right thing — so they learn what earned the reward far faster than treats alone.

How clicker training works
The click is a marker: you click the moment your dog does the behaviour you want, then follow with a treat. Because the sound is identical every time and perfectly timed, it bridges the gap between the action and the reward — clearer than a slow-arriving treat or a varied tone of voice.
You start by "charging" the clicker — click, treat, repeat — until your dog connects the sound with good things. From there you can capture and shape sits, downs, recalls, paw, settle and dozens more, one click at a time.
Choosing and using one
Any clicker works, but a box clicker or a button clicker with a wrist strap is easiest to use one-handed alongside a [treat pouch](/dog-treat-pouches). Some have an adjustable volume for noise-sensitive dogs.
Keep sessions short and upbeat, click once per correct action, and always follow a click with a reward — the click only works because it reliably predicts a treat. Our [dog training hub](/hub/dog-training) has step-by-step guides for each behaviour.
Everything here is chosen to be genuinely useful in everyday life with your pet — quality-checked, fairly priced and shipped tracked across the UK. For any health concern, your vet is always the best first port of call.
Common questions
Does clicker training actually work?
Yes — it is one of the most effective, well-evidenced reward-based methods. The precisely-timed click tells your dog exactly what earned the reward, which speeds up learning markedly.
How do I start clicker training?
Charge the clicker first: click and immediately treat, ten to fifteen times, until your dog perks up at the sound. Then begin clicking the instant your dog offers a behaviour you like, and reward every click.
Is a clicker better than a marker word?
Both work. A clicker is more precise and consistent; a marker word like "yes" is always with you. Many trainers use the clicker for teaching new behaviours and a word for maintaining them.
